The Amte Animal Ark

The Amte’s Animal Ark is an orphanage cum rescue centre at Hemalkasa for young wild animals, whose parents have been killed by the tribal people only for food and not for fun or entertainment. LBP has worked to save the lives of many young animals deserted in the forests. Today, even though the Madia people kill to eat, one sibling from among them is brought to the ark in exchange of food grains and clothes. The love of Dr. Prakash Amte towards animals cannot be expressed in words and the Amtes have always embraced orphaned & injured animals of the region.Today, the list of animals at the Amte Animal Ark is long – jackals, leopards, jungle cat, common palm civet, rhesus macaque, sloth bear, giant squirrel, rat-tail langur, four-horned antelope, black buck antelope, rat snake, Indian python, crocodile, monitor lizard, banded krait, peacocks, a spotted deer, porcupines and neelgai.
